Hi ! I'm Lucian Lamb. I have essentially been a resident of Newton County all of my life. My family moved to Lincoln Township south and west of Roselawn, Indiana when I was only a few months old from Fair Oaks Farms in Jasper County. I attended grade school for the first four years at Colfax Elementary and the last four years at Lincoln Grade School in Roselawn.
In 1955 I entered high school at Mount Ayr High in Mt. Ayr, Indiana where I graduated Salutatorian in a class of 33 which was the largest class to date in 1959. I left Newton County for a few years though as my selective service board members selected me to serve in the military during the Vietnam War. I have lived within about ten miles of where I was born for most of my 59 years.
I believe that the Volunteer Fire Departments in Newton County are of great importance to the citizens who they serve. We need to support them and we (the County) need to support them with our tipping fees collected since we are the garbage dumping site for NW Indiana and NE Illinois. If elected I intend to do what I can to endorse and support all the Fire Departments in the County. We also appreciate the aid of other local units from an adjacent county when they are needed.
I appreciate the efforts of the local police who help to keep our neighborhoods safe. We need to support our County Sheriff and his department to enable them to do a better job of keeping our communities safe.
I plan to encourage the citizenry of the county to attend the commissioners and council meetings in order that they will be made aware of what their local government is doing in their behalf. We need good, efficient government, not the "Good Ole Boy" form of government which supports it's own agenda which could be to the detriment of the taxpayers.
